Social Care Support for Autism

Under the Autism Act, all adults with Autism are entitled to a Social Care Assessment. You will be asked questions about the following areas:

  • Managing and maintaining nutrition
  • Maintaining personal hygiene
  • Managing toileting needs
  • Being appropriately clothes
  • Making use of your home safely
  • Maintaining a habitable home
  • Developing and maintaining family or other personal relationships
  • Accessing and engaging in work, training, education or volunteering
  • Making use of necessary facilities or services in the local community (such as public transport, leisure or recreational facilities)
  • Carrying out caring responsibilities for a child
  • Wellbeing

There are 3 criteria that adults must meet to be eligible for social care support. They are:

  1. The adult’s needs arise from, or are related to, a physical or mental impairment or illness
  2. As a result of the adult’s needs, the adult is unable to achieve two or more of the specified outcomes that are listed above
  3. As a consequence of being unable to achieve achieve these outcomes there is, or there is likely to be, a significant impact on the adult’s wellbeing

Referrals for services can be made by anyone, please contact the Access to Adult Social Care Team.
