Age Friendly Employers
As of the 31.05.2023, the Council employed 4,274 people, of these, 1,728 (40%) were aged 50+ and of these 600 (35%) were Newham residents.
In June 2023, the Council applied for Age-Friendly Employer status - a nationwide programme for employers who recognise the importance of older workers and is committed to supporting them to flourish in a multigenerational workforce, retaining them and continuing to benefit from their wealth of skills and experience.
Becoming an Age-Friendly Employer is a journey. By signing the pledge, the Council is not committing to take one action (big or small) every year.
In doing so, the Council hopes to lead by example, and encourage other local employers to apply for Age-Friendly status.
