About the Newham Centre for Health and Care Equity
In her manifesto, Mayor Fiaz committed to establishing a centre of excellence on equality in Health and Social Care.
To deliver this, the Council is bringing together people from Newham community, voluntary and faith groups, universities including University College London, University of East London, Queen Mary University London, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, local health organisations including Newham Health Collaborative, North East London Integrated Care System, and community members.
Together we are working to build the Newham Centre for Health and Care Equity. Our aims are:
- To generate actionable insights for how policy and practice can better promote health equity at a local level
- To enable collaboration between the local authority, NHS, local organisations, communities and academia through partnerships, co-production and capacity building
- To use learning to inform decision-making in Newham and to disseminate the learning to influence change more widely
- To ensure communities across Newham are actively involved
We will do this in four ways:
Delivery of this vision happens through four areas of work
- Embedding academia in local practice and local practice in academia
- Co-delivering evidence informed and evidence informing practice
- Improving equity in health and care services
- Co-creating a centre
