There are 10 award categories for the 2024 Newham Civic Awards aimed at individuals, groups and organisations. The below category descriptions should guide your nomination statement.
Award categories for individuals
The Honorary Alderperson Award is made to former councillors who have made an exceptional contribution to the borough and the council through their achievements whilst in office.
The Honorary Freedom of the Borough is the highest award the council can give to people who are not former councillors for their years of service to the borough through their work.
The Good Neighbour Award recognises unsung heroes who have been caring for people in their local neighbourhood.
The Outstanding Contribution Award is aimed at individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the social, cultural or environmental well-being of the borough.
Outstanding Contribution Award is sponsored by ExCel.
Award categories for an individual, group or organisation
The Green Champion Award recognises an individual, group or organisation which have dedicated their time and energy to improving the local environment.
The Youth Excellence Award supports the council's aim of making Newham the best place for children and young people to grow up and reach their full potential.
Youth Excellence Award is sponsored by Westfield Stratford City
Awards categories for groups and organisations
The Community Wealth Builder Award is aimed at entrepreneurs, companies and organisations which have made a strong contribution to Newham’s economy.
Community Wealth Builder Award is sponsored by Lendlease for Silvertown and Stratford Cross.
The Create and Thrive Award recognises groups or organisations which have made an outstanding contribution to arts, culture or sport in the borough.
Create and Thrive Award is sponsored by Foundation for Future London and East Bank.
The Well Newham Award recognises groups and organisations which have contributed towards improving the health and welfare of the people of Newham.
The Stronger and United Together Award recognises voluntary, faith and community groups and organisations which have brought together people of different cultures and communities.
