Independent School Admission Appeals
Parents/guardians have the right to appeal against the decision of the Admission Authority when their child is not allocated a place at their preferred school. These appeals are heard by an Independent Panel consisting of lay persons and school governors.
Voluntary members are currently being recruited to sit on these hearing panels.
We are looking for people from a range of backgrounds. You do not need any particular qualifications or be involved in the education sector, but you will need to be:
- Articulate
- Non judgemental
- Able to make rational and reasonable decisions
- Community focussed and keen to participate in a voluntary non-paid role (A fixed rate of £35 per day is paid to cover expenses)
- Able to attend a one day statutory training session delivered by a legal professional.
All panel members are required to undertake a DBS check and may be required to attend a short informal interview.
School Exclusion Review Panels
Parents/guardians have the right to ask for a review of a Governing Board’s decision not to reinstate their child after a permanently exclusion from school. These reviews are heard by an Independent Review Panel consisting of a lay person (Chair), a school governor and a head teacher.
Voluntary members are currently being recruited to sit on these hearing panels.
We are looking for people from a range of backgrounds. You do not need any particular qualifications or be involved in the education sector, but you will need to be:
- Articulate
- Non-judgemental
- Able to make rational and reasonable decisions
- Community focused and keen to participate in a voluntary non-paid role (A fixed rate of £34 per day is paid to cover expenses)
- Able to attend a one day statutory training session delivered by a legal professional.
All panel members are required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and will be required to attend a short informal interview.
