News & updates
- New Healthy School Streets schemes will be implemented for the following schools from Monday 23 September:
- St Stephen’s Primary School
- St Stephen’s Nursery
- St Stephen’s Children’s Centre
- Kaizen Primary School
- Gainsborough Primary School
- Rosetta Primary School
- Edith Kerrison Nursery / Children’s Centre
- Langdon Academy
- Portway Primary School
- Oasis Academy Silvertown
- Azhar Academy Girls School
- Blanket blue badge exemption
Currently, all Blue Badge holders can enter the following Healthy School Streets (HSS) zones at any time:
- Woodgrange Infant School & Godwin Junior School (H1)
- Chobham Academy (H2)
- West Ham CofE Primary School (H3)
- Lathom Junior School (H4)
This increases the number of vehicles driving through these HSS zones that could potentially be using a different route. Therefore, we will be making changes to these HSS zones so that Blue Badge holder exemptions are only issued if there is a reasonable need to drive into a HSS zone during operational hours e.g. to get to school or to access a place of work within the zone
- Black taxis
Black taxis are exempt from timed access restrictions for all HSS zones apart from the four zones mentioned above (H1 –H4). We are proposing to make changes to these zones to include an exemption for Black taxis.
Black taxis include a range of accessibility features such as a ramp, an induction hearing loop and grab handles, and can help people with disabilities or limited mobility travel more easily.
- Other changes to existing HSS zones
More information on the proposed changes listed below will be shared in the future.
- H2 (Woodgrange & Godwin) – road safety measures at the junction of Serbert Road and Avenue Road
- H1 (Chobham) – consultation on extending the zone
- H4 (Lathom) - consultation on extending the zone
- H12 (SPL & JFL) - consultation on reducing the zone
- H3 (West Ham C of E) - extending the School Keep Clear markings
