Bobby Moore Academy is consulting on the Academy’s admission arrangements. These arrangements are for students who will be starting in September 2023.
The consultation is taking place for a period of six weeks, between 19 November 2021 and 31 December 2021.
Consultation will also be undertaken via the London Borough of Newham’s co-ordinated consultation process and will be on the London Borough of Newham’s Consultation website from the start of the consultation period.
Why are we consulting?
The Trust must set (‘determine’) admission arrangements annually. Where changes are proposed to admission arrangements, the Trust must first publicly consult on those arrangements. If no changes are made to admission arrangements, they must be consulted on at least once every 7 years.
Bobby Moore Academy is proposing the following changes to its admissions arrangements for 2023:
Inclusion of the following over-subscription criteria.
Criteria 3: Children whose parent/carer (person with parental responsibility) in all staff groups are directly employed by the school:
- Where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made;
- The member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
The rationale for inclusion of this criteria is to align with the Borough of Newham’s admission arrangements. Inclusion of this criteria will also increase the academy’s ability to recruit more first-class teachers, which would benefit the whole school community.
Criteria 4: Service children: for admission purposes a child is recognised as a service child when:
- One of their parents/carers (with legal guardianship) is serving in the regular British armed forces, at the national closing date or the application date for In Year applications. OR
- One of their parents/carers (with legal guardianship) died whilst serving in the British armed forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme.
The rationale for inclusion of this criteria is to show the academy’s commitment to those who serve or have served this country and to align with the Borough of Newham’s admission arrangements and housing policy.
You are invited to review the admission arrangements and to ask yourself the following questions:
- Are the arrangements reasonable?
- Are the arrangements clear?
- Are the arrangements objective?
- Do the arrangements comply with the school admissions code 2021 and the school admissions appeals code 2012, and the laws and regulations behind them?
- Will the arrangements cause disadvantage or discrimination?
- Could changes be made that would improve the arrangements?
Responses to this consultation should be sent to either DRETadmissions@dret.co.uk or submitted via the London Borough of Newham School Admissions Consultation website. The closing data for responses is 31 December 2021.
On conclusion of the Consultation all responses received will be collated and presented to the Trust Board in February 2022 for full consideration. The outcome of the Consultation will be posted on the Academy’s website along with the final admissions policy for 2023.
