Alice Billings House Creative Studios
Alice Billings House is set to become a creative driver for small and medium enterprises and businesses to operate and collaborate. It will also be a place to connect, relax and enjoy the exhibitions whilst promoting local artists and culture, and provide new social and employment opportunities for local residents.
In July 2021, Newham Council appointed Creative Land Trust to transform the Grade II listed former firemen’s accommodation into spaces for local SMEs and artists, together with community space for local residents. Creative Land Trust is an organisation which aligns with Newham Council’s values, and which is committed to delivering the Council’s goals of ensuring the residents and young people of Newham feel the many benefits in terms of improved wellbeing, better employment, and opportunities for learning.
Alice Billings House South Block will open its doors to the public in 2023 and when the North Block is complete will include 30 studios let at affordable rents to creatives in the visual, performance and digital arts, designers and craftspeople. In addition, there will be teaching areas. The building will also host exhibitions and events, residencies and wellbeing sessions.
When complete the building will be a culture centre for Stratford and the wider borough, directly helping to contribute to Borough’s cultural ambitions as outlined in the Borough’s cultural strategy – Building Newham’s Creative Future.
