Office for Product Safety & Standards (OPSS) issues urgent safety warning regarding baby self-feeding pillows.
Newham Trading Standards are issuing an urgent notice to residents and businesses within the borough to highlight a recent product safety warning.
OPSS has issued an urgent safety warning relating to the use of baby self-feeding products which are being made available to consumers online and within local retailers.
Baby self-feeding products are designed to enable babies to bottle feed with little to no assistance from a care giver. This creates a risk of serious harm or death from choking on the feed, or aspiration pneumonia.
The Office for Product Safety Standards has identified that this category of products will always be dangerous due to their design and intended use and can never be made safe.
Using self-feeding products is also inconsistent with NHS guidance in relation to safe bottle feeding.
