Get involved in your local Community Assembly

An amazing 75 projects were voted as winners by Newham residents for this year’s Community Assembly grants. Each of Newham’s eight neighbourhood assemblies were allocated £100,000 to spend on improving their area.

Taking place this month (November) are 8 more community assemblies.

Councillor Charlene McLean, Cabinet Member for Resident Engagement and Experience said:

“Join us at your local Community Assembly to find out how your neighbours are using the £100,000 to make improvements in your area.

“There are some fantastic local organisations that are bringing ideas to life through the Community Assembly funding. Residents are taking action and using the funding to introduce initiatives that are contributing to our residents living happier and healthier lives.

“I encourage all residents to come and join your local Community Assembly, meet your neighbours who are already making improvements in your area and see how you can get involved.”

Anyone who lives, works or learns in the Community Neighbourhood can take part. The assemblies provides the chance to:

  • Discuss and work together with others to find solutions to local problems
  • Connect with other local people and share knowledge
  • Establish local projects
  • Find out what is happening in your local area
  • Influence how funding is spent in your neighbourhood

No need to register or book a ticket, just turn up! Residents can see where and when their local Assembly is taking place at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/community-assemblies-tickets-440799813107

Yakub Ali, Co-founder of Beckton Community Projects and previous winners of the Community Assembly grant for Beckton & Royal Docks said: “The Community Assembly grant has really helped us scale up our projects and now we can reach more residents in our community. It makes us feel proud that Newham Council is supporting us as local residents to help our own communities. The grant has helped us deliver our second annual fun day with over three hundred local people attending. It has also allowed us to deliver projects in Beckton that address issues such as mental health including a free planting project, free women’s HIIT session, subsidised yoga and a free youth club every Saturday.”
