Newham Council is once again taking part in the Great British Spring Clean.

Back for its seventh year, the 2022 Great British Spring Clean takes place from 25 March – 10 April.

This year the message for the Great British Spring Clean is simple - join the #BigBagChallenge and pledge to pick up as much litter as you can during the campaign

Following last year’s Great British Spring Clean, Newham was a finalist in the Keep Britain Tidy Awards. Newham Council is calling on residents to get involved and help us go one step further by winning the award this year.

Cllr James Asser, Cabinet Member for Environment, Sustainable Transport and Highways said:

“Last year across Newham there were 20 spring clean events. Over 600 residents volunteered at the litter picking events run by schools, youth groups and community neighbourhoods. We collected 220 bags of litter from our streets and green spaces.

“We know how important it is to our residents to make our borough a cleaner, greener and more attractive place to live. Community involvement plays an important part and we know many residents are keen to contribute and make an impact in their local neighbourhood.

“We hope that residents will take the opportunity to join their local events or organise an activity of their own.”

The Council is asking residents to get in touch if they would like to organise any litter picking events. To take part please contact our Public Realm Engagement Team by emailing recycling@newham.gov.uk with

  • Dates you intend to litter pick
  • Time of the litter pick
  • Location of litter pick
  • How many bags you pledge to collect

We will provide all the necessary gear and equipment to all the residents taking part and will organise the clearance of the bags after the events.
