Parents, Carers and partners invited to event to update on recent Ofsted inspection into Newham services for young people with special needs and disabilities

Following a joint inspection by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) into Newham’s services for young people with special needs and disabilities (SEND), an event chaired by Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz

... will be held next Friday (18 March).

The Newham local area SEND partnership (which is made up of Newham Council, health partners, school/education settings and Newham Parents Forum) was inspected between 6 - 10 December 2021. Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspect local areas together to see how effectively they fulfil their responsibilities for children and young people with SEND. These inspections look at how well education, social care and health services work together to identify those children and young people who have SEND and/or a disability and how well they assess and meet their needs.

The partnership in Newham completed a self-evaluation to support the borough’s improvement journey ahead of the inspection to address how services need to strengthen and develop to fully meet the needs of children and young people with SEND in Newham.

Following the inspection, the outcome letter is due to be published week beginning 14 March. The local area partnership would like to acknowledge and share the findings of the inspection with parents, carers and partners and work together to share next steps and gather feedback to support its improvement journey.

Two sessions have been organised -  an in-person session on Friday 18 March from 12-2pm at Stratford Town Hall and an online session on Thursday 24 March from 6pm-7.30pm.
