Newham Council is set to recognise extraordinary residents in the Newham Civic Awards 2022.

Nominations are now open for the Newham Civic Awards which celebrates our local residents, entrepreneurs, groups, organisations or companies who are helping to make Newham a better place to live, work or study.

The awards will recognise and celebrate individuals and groups who have supported others in their communities to build a more sustainable, inclusive, fairer and greener Newham. It will see people of all ages recognised for making a positive impact on those around them through outstanding contribution to arts, culture or sport.

There are six different types of award local residents, entrepreneurs, groups, organisations or companies can be nominated: Good Neighbour Award, Stronger and United Together Award, Community Wealth Builder Award, Green Champion Award, Youth Excellence Award and Create and Thrive Award.

Deadline for nominations is 11 March 2022 and nominations can be made via the following link: www.newham.gov.uk/awards

Successful nominations for the Newham Civic Awards will be presented at the Annual Council Meeting in May 2022.

 “Newham has amazing people and groups who make unsung contributions to their communities. We want to celebrate these unsung heroes by recognising the fantastic work of people in our borough who contribute significantly to making Newham a better place to live, work or study.

“Our local residents, entrepreneurs, groups, organisations and companies contribute hugely towards creating a better Newham and we do not want their efforts to go unnoticed.

“I strongly encourage everyone to nominate a local resident, entrepreneur, group, organisation or company who is doing something special, valued and amazing to give back and contribute to Newham.”

Honorary Freeperson and Honorary Alderperson Awards

You can also make a nomination the Honorary Freeperson and Honorary Alderperson Awards. These awards are the highest honour the London Borough of Newham can bestow with nominations for Honorary Alderperson being former Councillors who have rendered eminent services to the Council and Honorary Freeperson nominations being persons of distinction and any persons who have rendered eminent services to the Borough”.
