Newham Council is this week distributing one thousand activity packs to some of Newham’s residents to help improve their health and wellbeing.
The packs, funded by Sport England’s Tackling Inequalities Fund, include a tennis ball, sensory ball, resistance bands, skipping rope, beanbag and booklet giving helpful information on exercises residents can do with the equipment.
The Newham Food Alliance in partnership with London Sport is distributing the activity packs, and the aim is to encourage residents to keep active at home, in the park or at other outdoor spaces.
Cllr Zulfiqar Ali, Cabinet Member of Adults and Health said: “Improving the health of our residents is one of the key priorities from our ‘50 Steps: Health and Wellbeing Strategy’.
“I am delighted that we are giving free resources to people and families in our borough to support their mental and physical wellbeing. Not everyone has access to fitness equipment, so I hope those recipients of the activity packs will be able to make good use of them and feel better and healthier as a result.”
Recipients of an activity pack are encouraged to complete and return the feedback survey in the activity booklet, for a chance to win one of three family swims at one of the activeNewham leisure centres.
