Mayor Forhad Hussain returned to NewVic to celebrate A Level results, praising students across Newham and highlighting strong results at schools across the borough.
Mayor of Newham Forhad Hussain today (Thurs) returned to his former sixth form college to congratulate the last crop of students on their results.
Mayor Hussain attended NewVic, where he studied Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and returned today to meet the students anxiously waiting for results.
Mayor of Newham Forhad Hussain said: “I remember the morning of my A Level results with the feeling of nervousness and excitement. Being back at the NewVic is emotional, I remember walking down The Link between classes and thinking about the future.
“The NewVic is where it all started for me and the young people reminded me of my time there. They shared the same passion and ambition as I did, and I was so grateful to be able to share such a proud moment with them.”
Some of the high performing schools included St Angela's Ursuline School, where students achieved a record-breaking set of A Level results with 71% securing A*-B grades, while 93% achieved A*-C grades while the overall pass rate was 99%.
St Bonaventure's RC School returned a 100% pass rate this year, while two thirds of students received A*-C grades. The school said many students were now taking up offers at major UK universities or starting degree apprenticeships.
In 2025, Newham ranked third highest nationally for Average Point Score per Entry among A Level students, placing 3rd out of approximately 150 local authorities in England.
Mayor Forhad Hussain added: “To everyone collecting their A Level, T Level, BTEC and Level 3 VTQ results today, congratulations to you all. I hope your hard work and dedication have paid off.
“I would particularly like to congratulate the students with special educational needs and those who have overcome barriers to achieve their results today. Everyone in Newham is so proud of each and every one of you.
“And to those who did not get the results they were expecting – do not worry, help is available. There are lots of options available to you and the council can support you to choose a path that is right for you.”
