The sixth Festival will celebrate ‘Newham at 60: A Borough Like No Other’
£100,000 of community grants are being made available for local people to help create the 2025 Newham Heritage Month programme. The festival is made by Newham’s communities, for Newham’s communities and has been made possible thanks to a generous grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the creation of the London Borough of Newham, Newham Heritage Month 2025 will be themed ‘Newham at 60: A Borough Like No Other’, exploring the people and places that have made Newham the unique borough that it is.
The popular festival will return for its sixth year, celebrating everything that has contributed to the borough’s development over time, from outstanding individual members of the community, to special places across the borough, activist movements, creative minds and iconic moments.
Grants are available for projects that will research the borough’s period of change in 1965 from the Essex county boroughs of East Ham and West Ham to Newham, or stories that go back prior to this time and link them to Newham in the present.
The month of performances, exhibitions and activities will explore the unrivalled heritage of our local area with a vibrant programme showcasing hidden stories of the borough.
Grants of up to £5,000 for individuals and up to £8,000 are available for groups and organisations. The deadline to submit applications is 21 March 2025. Applications can be made on the Newham Heritage Month website.
Newham Heritage Month, generously funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, is organised by Newham Council.
