Newham Council introduces International Women’s Day – Women in Tech

Join us for an inspiring International Women’s Day event as we ‘Accelerate Action’ towards a more inclusive future in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and Artificial Intelligence (AI).  
We’re thrilled to welcome two inspiring speakers for a conversation on breaking barriers, fostering accessibility, and driving transformative change for women in STEM. 

Marie-Pearl Adomah is an App Innovation Specialist at Microsoft, dedicated to empowering technical employees, including developers, engineers, and architects, to innovate. She has been a passionate advocate for youth empowerment, especially in preparation for life after compulsory education. Since 2023, Marie-Pearl has led and supported over 10 work experience and insight days, equipping young people with further education options, CV and interview tips, and encouraging them to think outside the box.

Arfah Farooq, Newham-born and raised, is the co-founder and CEO of Muslamic Makers, a community that helps the next generation of Muslim changemakers level up across the tech industry and beyond and co-founder of Muslim Tech Fest. Muslamic Makers was recently listed as The 100 Most Innovative Global Muslim Startups to Watch. Arfah is also a multiple award winner, most recently being listed in the Top 11 most influential women in tech by Computer Weekly in 2023 and Top 50 most influential women in Tech by Computer Weekly in 2022 and 2023.

Hosted by Patricia Regis, this discussion will explore the cultural shifts driven by AI, and the systemic barriers faced by women in these fields. Together, we’ll consider how communities in Newham can build knowledge and embrace the exciting possibilities within this evolving landscape.This event coincides with the start of British Science Week 2025, making it the perfect moment to champion innovation, inclusion, and action among women and girls.
