Mayor of Newham welcomes decision to extend the Household Support Fund for a further 6 months

• Our Newham Money will continue to provide financial assistance to help Newham residents with the cost of living
• Wide ranging support continues to be available

The Government’s Household Support Fund has been extended till April 2025, which will ensure that local government funded help for Newham residents hit hardest by the high cost of living can continue.

We welcome the government’s recent decision to extend the Household Support Fund for a further six months, which we have campaigned for. The extension will provide continued assistance to those struggling with the high cost of living, ensuring that essential support remains available during these challenging times.

The fund has been an absolute lifeline for many Newham residents over the last 3 years. Since its introduction, we have used the fund in various ways to help residents impacted most by the cost of living including providing hardship payments to over 30,000 households and holiday food vouchers to 22,000 children outside of school time.

The Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz, OBE said: “This extension is hugely welcomed and comes at a critical time for many of our residents. The Household Support Fund has been a vital resource in providing immediate relief to those facing financial hardship. With the cost of living continuing to remain high, this additional support will ensure that the range of ways that our dedicated financial wellbeing service, Our Newham Money, help residents will continue. We are committed to making sure these funds reach those who need them most, and we will continue to work closely with our partners to support our residents.

“However, while this temporary support is crucial, it is not a permanent fix. We continue to call on the government to recognise the significant challenges our residents are facing and recognise that Local Authorities require funding that reflects local needs including that of residents struggling with the cost of living.”

If you need support, the online form for the Government’s Household Support Fund is currently open for applicants to complete. Applications can also be made in person at Our Newham’s office at 112-118 The Grove, Stratford. Anyone requiring further information should visit www.newham.gov.uk/ournewhammoney.
