Students in Newham are celebrating after achieving their BTEC, T Level and A Level results.
More than 2000 young people sat A Level, T Level and BTEC exams in the borough this summer, and provisional results released on 15 August show some great achievements.
Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE and Statutory Deputy Mayor Councillor Sarah Ruiz, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Education, celebrated with students who collected results for their BTEC, T Levels and A Levels.
Mayor Fiaz, who visited pupils at St Bonaventure’s School in Forest Gate, said: “I want to say congratulations to all Newham students who’ve received their A Level, T Level and BTEC results today. I know all of you have been working really hard, and are being supported by all of your amazing Newham teachers and school staff.
“If the outcome wasn’t what you’d expected please do not worry, you still rock! There are loads of opportunities and options for you. So enjoy your day, you’ve all done really well and we’re all really, really proud of you!”
St Bons Headteacher Chris McCormack was full of praise for the dedication demonstrated by the students in their exams: “Our 6th Form continues to be a source of joy within the St Bonaventure’s Community. Congratulations to our students who have been rewarded for all their hard work alongside the dedication of their brilliant teachers.”
Wayne Templeman, Director of 6th Form, said, “We are delighted to announce that our results have improved once again across all grade profiles. We are especially pleased with the improved number of A* and A grades in our 6th Form, testament to the hard work of all staff and students.”
Students at NewVIc College in Plaistow were celebrating remarkable results, which were on average up two percentage points on last year’s figures, with high grades rising by 10%.
Councillor Ruiz said: “It was wonderful to be at NewVIc today to meet the brilliant students and the inspirational staff. To see such a group of talented young people just proves that it doesn’t matter where you come from and whether you study BTECs or A Levels, this generation has grasped the chance to succeed and are achieving their dreams.”
NewVIc Interim Principal, Jamie Purser said; “We are extremely proud of our Class of 2024 who have worked hard throughout their time at NewVIc, alongside dedicated teachers, tutors, and support staff to achieve their results. NewVIc continues to provide an inclusive and aspirational learning experience for our students and it is fantastic that the college has improved its outcomes and achievements this year.”
NewVIc will merge with Newham College on the November 1st 2024, creating one of the largest standalone colleges in the country.
Jamie Purser, who will head up the new merged college said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for the students, teachers and staff of NewVIc and Newham College. I look forward to working with all my brilliant colleagues and our inspirational students to continue to deliver the best possible outcomes for all our learners to realise their full potential.”
