Newham is celebrating after receiving six Green Flag Awards, once again achieving this international quality mark for parks and green spaces in the borough.
The news that six parks have achieved the accreditation is testament to the hard work and dedication of the Council’s teams that care for the green spaces so that visitors and residents alike can enjoy.
Joining the country’s best parks are:
- Central Park
- Forest Lane Park
- Keir Hardie Recreation Ground
- East Ham Nature Reserve
- Plashet Park
- Royal Victoria Gardens
Councillor Sarah Ruiz, Statutory Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Environment, Sustainable Transport, Children Services and Education, said: "I am immensely proud to that six of our beautiful parks have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag status. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our communities and parks teams, who tirelessly strive to maintain and improve our green spaces. These parks provide vital sanctuaries for residents to enjoy nature, stay active and gather with loved ones. Our commitment to environmental sustainability and community wellbeing is reflected in this achievement, and we will continue to work towards making Newham a greener, healthier place for all."
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved on achieving a Green Flag Award.
“The parks and green spaces are vital for communities in Newham to socialise, enjoy nature, for children to play safely and it provides important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
