New Carpenters Estate Entrance to Stratford Station Now Open

Opening of Stratford Station Entrance

The new Carpenters Estate entrance to Stratford Station opened this week (10 July) which will greatly benefit commuters by providing direct access to one of the UK's busiest stations.

Located on Gibbins Road, and in collaboration with Transport for London (TfL) and the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), this new entrance and exit marks a significant milestone in the Council’s 28-acre Carpenters Estate restoration and regeneration scheme, which aims to deliver over 2,000 homes, with 50% at social rent levels.

The new entrance has been funded by £1 million of Community Infrastructure Levy funding from Newham Council, alongside £3.4 million from the London Legacy Development Corporation, offers direct access to Gibbins Road for Carpenters Estate residents. It provides a significantly reduced walking time of up to twenty minutes for those entering the station from the Carpenters Estate. It also opens new routes into the Olympic Park and East Bank venues, helping to connect residents, visitors and businesses.

The entrance also features seating and bicycle racks, promoting active travel around the station and Stratford town centre, while supporting the Council’s aspiration for Stratford to become London’s first-ever Green Zone; part of the Just Transition Climate Action plans.

The new station entrance also supports the Council’s broader Stratford Vision, which includes a strategic outline business case to the Government seeking investment for further improvement and expansion of Stratford Station.
