Melanie Onovo and Liz Cronin elected as Newham councillors for the Maryland, and Forest Gate wards

Melanie Onovo elected as Councillor for the Maryland ward and Liz Cronin elected as Councillor for Forest Gate North following two by-elections that took place on Thursday 4 July 2024.

In Maryland Melanie Onovo of the Labour Party received a total of 1,626 votes, followed by Linda Jordan of the Newham Independents, who received a total of 896 votes.

Chris Brooks of the Green Party received 712 votes; Mary Antwi of the Conservative Party, received 360 votes and David Terrar of the Liberal Democrats, received 185 votes.

There were 39 spoiled ballots. The turnout for the Maryland Ward was 41.25%.

Liz Cronin was elected as Councillor for the Forest Gate North ward.

Liz Cronin of the Labour Party received a total of 1,757 votes, followed by Zakaria Bhariwala of the Newham Independents, who received a total of 1,073 votes.

Zahra Kheyre of the Green Party received 810 votes; Malcolm Madden, Conservative Party, received 251 votes; and Jamie Bryant, Liberal Democrats, received 192 votes.

There were 36 spoiled ballots. The turnout for the Forest Gate North Ward was 53.35%.
