• National recognition for Newham teams
• Cleaner streets and better greenspaces
Newham’s Street Cleansing, Parks and Green Spaces and Waste Reduction teams have been nationally recognised for their work to improve the borough’s environment.
Members of the Parks and Green Spaces and Street Cleansing teams, attended the annual Keep Britain Tidy Network Conference and Awards 2024, in recognition of their service’s delivery and achievements.
The Parks team was shortlisted to the top three nationally, highlighting the commitment to creating standout green spaces and earning recognition in the 'Innovation in Parks and Greenspaces Awards’ Category.
During the ceremony, Newham’s Street Cleansing service was also honoured with the prestigious 'Outstanding Service Delivery Award', for dedication to maintaining cleaner streets and the changes the team made this year to improve the quality of the service.
This national success for Environment and Sustainable Transport teams followed an earlier triumph at The Great British Spring Clean 2024 launch event at the Houses of Parliament, which saw Newham’s Waste Reduction team secure the 'Outstanding Organisers Award' for the Great British Spring Clean, in collaboration with the Newham Muslim Forum.
Councillor James Asser, Cabinet lead for Environment and Sustainable Transport said: “Congratulations to our Parks and Green Spaces, Street Cleansing and Waste Reduction teams, and to Newham Muslim Forum, for these superb achievements, your hard work and commitment continue to make a significant impact and improve the lives of our residents.
“The teams will not rest of their laurels, lots has been done but we have lots still to, as we push ahead with our Let’s Love Newham campaign.”
