• Newham Council “fetch” Gold and Platinum awards for Animal Welfare Services
At the annual RSPCA PawPrint Awards Newham staff won the RSPCA Stray Dog Services (Platinum) Award and the Animal Activity Licensing (Gold) PawPrints Award.
Councillor Amar Virdee Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Crime said: “The work of our Animal Welfare team is so important for the wellbeing of animals but also for the safety of our residents. Their efforts to promote responsible and caring pet ownership has never been more vital.
“The PawPrints scheme exemplifies how we can all achieve so much more for both animals and people by working together. It provides our staff with the confidence to know they’re doing their best for animals and receive recognition from the RSPCA for delivering excellent animal welfare services.”
Lee Gingell, the RSPCA’s public affairs manager for local government, said: “Despite the challenging situation for all local authorities across the country, we’re thrilled to see Newham Council pick up the RSPCA’s Stray Dog Services (Platinum) and the Animal Activity Licensing (Gold) PawPrints Awards.
“We've handed out Platinum-level awards to recognise organisations that have consistently achieved Gold for five or more years consecutively, which again demonstrates Newham Council's unwavering commitment to animal welfare.
“It’s a tough time for pet owners as the cost of living crisis continues, and a tough time too for local authorities and public bodies as demands increase and resources decline. In the face of these challenges, we’re proud to award Newham Council as part of the PawPrints Awards for implementing and promoting schemes and policies that protect and promote animal welfare, and support pet owners - now more important than ever.”
