• The 31st Open House festival is centred around enabling access, learning and celebration of London’s best neighbourhoods
Newham will be showcasing over 69 events across 23 places in the borough as part of the Open House Festival 2023 which will be running from 6 – 17 September 2023.
Open House Festival is a two-week celebration of London’s homes, architecture and neighbourhoods, which gives a unique opportunity for the public to access buildings and spaces that they otherwise would not be able to access throughout the year.
As part of the 2023 program, Newham will be showcasing a rich mix of historic and new places across the borough through guided tours, artistic performances, talks with local authors and drop–in sessions. These include Theatre Royal, Abbey Mills Pumping Station, Sugar House Island, The Building Crafts College and many more.
Alongside the events, visitors will also be able to appreciate East Ham which has been chosen as one of the key unique London neighbourhoods with visits to the likes of Applecart Studios, Rainbow Garden, Red Door Studios, East House and many more available.
Councillor Rohit Dasgupta, Cabinet member for Equalities, Social Justice and Culture, said: “Open House Festival is a remarkable festival for both local residents and visitors to appreciate the unsung architectural gems in our local neighbourhood. I am really pleased that we have the chance to once again celebrate our culturally diverse borough through a mix of diverse events of 69 events throughout September. I am looking forward to attending the events and would urge residents to come along and enjoy some of their local places through a new perspective.”
Kenny Orellana, an Open House Festival volunteer and East Ham resident, added: “East Ham has such a vibrant and culture-rich neighbourhood and I am delighted to be able to share my appreciation for my local neighbourhood with visitors of the festival yet again. My own self-built home, East House which was designed to create an acute sense of ownership and connection to the neighbourhood is a great example of how local architecture can create better places for local Londoners.”
