East Ham neighbourhood made cleaner and safer through estate improvement scheme

Communal areas of an East Ham neighbourhood

• Flytipping removed, new footpath laid and communal space upgraded during works to freshen up exterior of Durban Court

Communal areas of an East Ham neighbourhood have been rejuvenated as part of Newham Council’s ongoing efforts to upgrade the borough’s housing estates.

Residents of Durban Court now benefit from newly-surfaced and lined car parking areas and footpaths, new LED lighting and a cleared and resurfaced rear communal area which will be used as a community garden managed and maintained by residents.

Abandoned vehicles have been removed, new signage and noticeboards installed and gutters cleaned during the works, which were carried out following a visit from Cabinet Member for Housing Management and Modernisation Cllr Shaban Mohammed to identify potential improvements.

Cllr Mohammed said: “Our residents are rightly proud of their homes, and that extends beyond their front doors and onto their estates.

“From providing extra space by tidying up overgrown areas to improving safety with new lighting or footpaths, we’re committed to listening to and acting on our residents’ priorities to enhance neighbourhoods across Newham.”

Newham Council’s estate improvement programme is shaped by residents, and Council tenants and leaseholders can share their views on their neighbourhood by emailing getinvolved.housing@newham.gov.uk
