• Hundreds of residents attend first of four fun days hosted by Newham Council’s Housing Services team
Newham residents got the holidays off to an exciting start at the first of four fun days being held across the borough this summer.
More than 630 Council tenants and leaseholders flocked to Jack Cornwell Open Space on Wednesday 26 July for the Community Fun Day arranged by Newham’s Housing Services team.
Visitors enjoyed giant games, face painting and free entertainment including magic shows and arts and crafts sessions, while an expert mobile mechanic from Dr Bike was on hand to provide free cycle repairs.
The event also gave residents the chance to meet Council staff from various departments, get their questions answered and find out how to get more involved in their communities.
Cllr Shaban Mohammed, Cabinet Member for Housing Management and Modernisation, said: “It was brilliant to see such a great turnout at our first Community Fun Day of 2023.
“Our neighbourhoods are made up of such strong communities and we always look forward to hosting events like this where families can come together and enjoy themselves.
“We’ve got another three fun days coming up, so if you’re a Council tenant or leaseholder, don’t miss out – come along and join in the fun!”
The remaining Community Fun Days take place from 12pm until 5pm over the first three Wednesdays in August:
- Wednesday 2 August: Westland House/Queensland House (Rymill Street E16 2LF)
- Wednesday 9 August: May Green (Watson Street E13 9AE)
- Wednesday 16 August: College Point (Wolffe Gardens E15 2JJ)
