Newham Council is pleased to officially open the first section of the Royal Docks Corridor. This project will improve the street environment and essential infrastructure maintenance on Silvertown Way and North Woolwich Road from Canning Town to Connaught Bridge, supporting new jobs and homes.
On Tuesday, 11 July, the first phase of the Royal Docks Corridor was completed and showcased. Project teams and key stakeholders were present, including Deputy Mayor Councillor James Asser, the Newham highways team, the Royal Docks Team, FM Conway, Project Centre, Lendlease and Oasis Academy.
This first completed section focuses on the area outside the new Oasis Academy school. It provides a new signalised pedestrian crossing, segregated cycle tracks, Copenhagen-style crossings and new trees and greenery.
Cllr James Asser, Deputy Mayor of Newham and Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainable Transport, said:
“The Royal Docks Corridor project is designed to improve the local area by creating new public spaces, wider pavements, separated cycle lanes, more crossings, better connections to local destinations; which will be easier to walk around and safer with slower traffic speeds.
“The project will change a road built for traffic to the old docks and industry into one designed to serve a fast-growing residential area, which will benefit everyone, including the new schools and the many families moving into the docks.”
