• Consultation opens into Housing Asset Management Strategy to make homes warmer, greener and safer
A new plan setting out how Newham Council will prioritise improvements to make social housing in the borough warmer, greener and safer is open up for public consultation.
Residents and stakeholders have until Monday 31 July 2023 to have their say on the Draft Housing Asset Management Strategy 2023-2025 (AMS), which will help the Council target work on the residential buildings that need it most.
The draft AMS, which was presented to Cabinet on Thursday 8 June 2023, will also:
- Increase the use of proactive inspections and data to target properties with lower energy ratings, helping in the fight against damp and mould
- Ensure the Council is prepared to meet emerging building and fire regulations
- Set out Newham’s action plan for the next two years, including how it will apply energy-efficient upgrades.
Information gathered during the initial draft AMS will be used to shape longer-term plans covering future five- and 30-year periods.
Darren Levy, Director of Housing, said:
“This draft strategy will be essential in helping us to efficiently and effectively maintain our residential buildings and improve conditions across the almost 24,000 tenanted and leaseholder homes that we manage.
“Our residents know their homes better than anyone and I encourage them to share their knowledge and insights through this consultation so that we can plan and deliver upgrades that make a genuine difference.”
As well as taking part in the online consultation, residents across Newham can find out more about the AMS by attending their Local Area Forum. Dates and locations can be found on the Local Area Forum page of our website.
There will also be a dedicated session about the AMS consultation and the ongoing damp and mould consultation ahead of the Local Area Forum at Canning Town Library from 4-6pm on Wednesday 5 July.
