Grants of up to £500 are now available to help organise community based celebrations for the King's coronation.

Newham Council is offering grants of up to £500 to help organise community based celebrations for the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

Residents, schools and community groups are invited to organise celebratory events for the coronation of His Majesty the King between Sunday 7 May to Wednesday 10 May 2023. The extra bank holiday on Monday 8 May will give communities throughout the United Kingdom the opportunity to mark the event.

Councillor Charlene McLean said, “Newham residents have a legacy of hosting memorable street parties and community events to commemorate once in a lifetime events. We are again presented with an opportunity for the community to come together in May.

“Events are set to be organised across Newham in community spaces, parks and streets and the council will be helping our residents mark the occasion. The grant is available to support you and it is easy to apply, so hurry before the closing date on the 17 March.”

The King’s coronation grant will assist community groups to plan celebratory events. Applications to the grant are currently open and close on Thursday 17 March.

Those receiving the grant will also receive a waiver of all non-statutory fees and charges such as road closures, hire of council community venues and parks. It is a condition of this grants programme that all events are free to enter / at no cost to the public.

The Coronation which will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey.
