Using the Right to Buy scheme

Find out how to apply for Right to Buy (RTB) - a government scheme which gives qualifying council tenants a chance to buy their homes. You will usually qualify for a discount from the full market valuation of their property if you have been a secure public sector tenant for at least three years.

Newham Council Officers will not ask for money to provide the Right to Buy service. Do not pay any third party agents to process your application form. Please also note that our officers always carry a proof of ID, be cautious of third party agents. Preventing and detecting fraud against the Council

Newham Council carries out checks to prevent and detect fraud. If fraud is detected, you could be refused certain services, finance or employment.

We may share information provided to it with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds, law enforcement agencies, or undertake local anti-fraud initiatives, in order to prevent and detect fraud or money laundering. The personal information we have collected from you will be shared with fraud prevention agencies. London: £136,400

Outside London: £102,400

These discounts will apply to Right to Buy applications which are served on the landlord by the tenant on or after 6 April 2024.

The discounts do not apply retrospectively to applications made before 6 April 2024.
