Report an empty property in Newham
Problems caused by empty properties
Empty properties are not only an eyesore, affecting the way a neighbourhood looks but they can attract vandals, fly tippers and other types of anti-social behaviour which can affect the community. Every empty property is also a lost opportunity to provide a home for a family, taking them out of expensive temporary accommodation and giving them the opportunity for a permanent home.
The London Borough of Newham is committed to identifying and reducing the number of empty properties and undeveloped plots of land.
If the owner does not do anything to get the property reoccupied, put on the open market or is unwilling to work with us, we will take legal action. This can include the use of Compulsory Purchase Orders or making an Empty Dwelling Management Order where the Council will find a tenant and rent the property to them.
