About the service

Following a complete restructure of the Corporate Centre for the London Borough of Newham, the Mayor’s office has undergone a complete transformation to make it ready to deliver the Building a Fairer Newham Corporate Plan.

The Mayor’s office now includes some exciting new roles which, together with the changes to the corporate centre around digital, communications, climate change and performance, means we are hard-wired to deliver on the promises made to Newham residents over the current four-year administration.

Within the Mayor’s office we have built a team with exciting new roles which provide a diverse and inspiring insight into the work of the Council through the lens of the Mayor’s office. The range of skills and variety you will experience will be extensive and delivered via a supportive team ethic which will motivate you to succeed.

Job Roles

Portfolio Adviser
Following the implementation of the new Cabinet Accountability and performance model across the Council, based on the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, this key strategic role will directly work with Mayor and cabinet members and across the corporate centre to drive through the delivery their clear mandate to build on their first term’s achievements and Build a Fairer Newham in their second term. If you have a strategy and delivery driven mind-set then these roles are excellent opportunities to get into the heart of delivering Newham’s ambitious Building a Fairer Newham agenda. Find out more about this role and how to apply.

Stakeholder, Community and Partners Engagement Lead
In Newham we place huge importance on participatory democracy and heavy reliance on building effective and valuable stakeholder relationships to ensure we are in touch with our residents and key change makers within the borough. This role within the Mayor’s office will lead on coordinating all our efforts to secure and maintain strong, collaborative and sustainable relationships across a wide and diverse range of partners and stakeholders to preserve the valuable relationships which the Mayor holds in high regard. Cabinet Officer (Mayor’s Casework Focus)
We are looking for an individual with a conscientious attitude, good understanding of the London Borough of Newham as an organisation, and a detail-oriented approach to join the Mayor's Office as a Cabinet Officer. This role requires a high level of emotional intelligence as well as an understanding of the key issues affecting many of our residents on a daily basis. In this role, working with a Senior Cabinet Officer and a further Cabinet Officer, you will be the main interface with the people of Newham and be representing the Mayor in every response you give. Find out more about this role and how to apply.

Communications and Marketing Lead
The Mayor of Newham plays a very active role within the community delivering on a broad array of commitments in respect of which showcasing her work is a key and vital responsibility within the team. From communicating delivery of our Building a Fairer Newham Corporate Plan to drafting keynote political speeches or creating social media and effective graphic design work, you will possess highly creative and effective communication and marketing skills harnessed through a rich experience of similar political communication or marketing roles.Find out more about this role and how to apply.
