Paying for non-residential care

Charging Consultation

Adult social care consultation: proposals to change the financial cap on non-residential charging

The council is seeking your views on proposals to remove the local cap on charging for non-residential care services. The consultation runs from 15th July to 24th August 2024.

What is the cap on care?

The current cap on non-residential care is £400 per week. This means that if, following a social care assessment, your care costs are more than £400 per week, and you have been financially assessed to pay the full cost of your care, you will currently pay no more than £400 per week.

Non-residential care refers to a service provided to you at home or in the community by adult social care following an assessment of your needs.

Why are we consulting?

Newham Council wants to develop a fair and consistent approach to charging for care. Removing the cap on care will put us in line with almost all other local authorities. If the proposed changes are implemented it will affect 4% of residents currently with a package of care. Removing the local charging cap on non-residential care services will also support the sustainability of the service now and in the future.

When does the consultation take place?

The consultation runs from 15th July to 24th August 2024.
