Register for universal 15 hours early years education for 3 and 4 year olds

All three-year-old and four-year-old children are entitled to at least 15 hours per week of free early years education. This can be taken from the term after your child turns three.

This can be with an approved provider of your choice. Register directly with your chosen childcare provider to take up a place.

Apply for 30 hours free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds

30 hours of free childcare is available in England to working parents who meet the eligibility criteria. If eligible, the earliest you can access the 30 hours is from the term after your child’s third birthday. You must however apply a term in advance of when you wish your child to start. If your child is 3 already, apply now to start next term.

As you are getting ready to apply for your child’s place at school, it is important to spend some time finding out which schools are available in your area and what might be the best choice for your child.

When you reach the November after your child turns three or the November before your child turns four, it is time to apply for a school place. The deadline is 15 January.

Out-of-school services provide childcare and opportunities for children to play and have fun outside of school hours.

4-in-1 pre-school booster overview

The 4-in-1 pre-school booster vaccine is offered to children from the age of 3 years and 4 months to boost their protection against different serious conditions:

• diphtheria
• tetanus
• whooping cough
• polio

Health visitors work with children and their families from the antenatal period until children are five. We work in partnership with other agencies such as midwives, GPs, schools, social workers, voluntary services and children centres.  

Together we aim to improve the health and wellbeing of all children aged 0-5 and to prevent ill health through health promotion at individual and community level.
