Charging Consultation
This consultation has now closed - thank you to all those who took part. The consultation ran from 15 July 2024 to 24 August 2024.
What were the proposals?
The consultation was seeking views on the proposal to remove the local cap on charging for non-residential care.
Why did we consult?
Removing the cap on non-residential care services would put us in line with almost all other local authorities. It would also support the sustainability of adult social care now, and in the future.
Outcome of the consultation
In December, Newham Council's Cabinet made the decision that the local cap on non-residential charging should be removed. This will take affect from 27th January 2025.

Who is affected?
The changes will only impact residents;
- Who currently contribute £400 a week towards services that have been arranged by adult social care AND;
- These services cost more than £400 per week, AND
- They have been financially assessed as having the ability to either contribute more, or in full towards their services
- Who have savings or assets over £23,250
- Who have not previously disclosed their level of savings, assets or income.
The proposals will impact around 0.51% of residents who currently have a non-residential care service that have been arranged by adult social care. We have contacted every resident that has been directly affected by the changes to provide information, advice and guidance.
