Charging Consultation
This consultation has now closed - thank you to all those who took part. The consultation ran from 15 July 2024 to 24 August 2024.
What were the proposals?
The consultation was seeking views on the proposal to remove the current local cap on charging for non-residential care.
If implemented who might be affected?
If implemented, the proposals would only impact residents:
- Who currently contribute £400 a week towards services that have been arranged by adult social care AND;
- These services cost more than £400 per week, AND
- They have been financially assessed as having the ability to either contribute more, or in full towards their services
- Who have savings or assets over £23,250
- Who have not previously disclosed their level of savings, assets or income.
The proposals are likely to impact around 4% of residents who currently have a non- residential service that has been arranged by adult social care.
Why did we consult?
Removing the cap on non-residential care services would put us in line with almost all other local authorities. It would also support the sustainability of adult social care now, and in the future.
What happens next?
We are reviewing all of the feedback provided to us and will develop a report which will be shared with Newham Council’s Cabinet who will make a decision about the proposals.
We will write to residents to let them know what the decision means for them. Any update will be published on this page as soon as it will be available.
