What happens after giving notice
When you attend your Notice of Marriage appointment you will be asked some simple questions about yourself and your partner.
The Registrar will complete a form for you to sign and this will then be displayed for 28 clear days in the Register Office, which the general public are allowed to see. Newham Register Office is located in Newham Town Hall, Barking Road, East Ham, E6 2RP.
After the 28 (or 70 in some cases) clear days have expired, the Register Office will issue the authority to marry. The notice lasts for 12 months.
Please note you must wait at least 28 clear days after each of you have given notice before the marriage ceremony can take place.
The day you give notice is not the same day as your wedding or civil ceremony - do not turn up to give notice expecting to have your ceremony at the same time.
