Each Election requires employing hundreds of staff to ensure elections run smoothly.
We are always looking for new motivated and dynamic to fill any vacancies that occur, and would love to hear from you if you're interested in becoming involved. There are a variety of opportunities such as Polling Staff, Count Staff and Postal Voting staff, you can apply for more than one role. If you are not initially allocated for a post then you will be added to our reserve list.

If you've worked for the London Borough of Newham election team recently you don't need to complete an application form. Keep an eye on your online staffing account as that's where we'll be sending your offer of employment if we make one.
Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years of age to work in a polling station or as a counting assistant.
- If you are not employed by London Borough of Newham you will need to provide your National Insurance number, and a copy of your passport or relevant supporting information which confirms you are entitled to work in the UK.
- If you are registered unemployed, you are advised to consult your local unemployment benefits office before you accept any offer of employment we may make you.
- Polling and count staff must not work on behalf of a candidate during an election campaign, nor be related to a prospective candidate.
Rates of pay
The rates of pay for election staff vary depending on the job role and the type of election. For example a poll clerk fee in 2019 was £215 and the counting fee was £175 for a count assistant.
